From June 5th to 8th, 2024, the "Academic Symposium on the Innovative Development of Laboratory Animal Resources and Animal Models and the Inaugural Meeting of the Expert Database for Laboratory Animal Resource Identification and Evaluation" was held at the Xiaoxiang Huatian Hotel in Changsha, Hunan. This conference was jointly hosted by the Laboratory Animal Resource Identification and Evaluation Working Committee of the Chinese Association for Laboratory Animal Sciences and the Human Disease Animal Model Professional Committee of the Hunan Pathophysiological Society, and co-organized by Central South University. The theme of the conference was "Enriching and Innovating Laboratory Animal Resources to Promote the Development and Application of Laboratory Animal Resources".
The opening ceremony was presided over by Professor Liu Yunbo, Executive Director of the Chinese Association for Laboratory Animal Sciences (CALAS) and Chairman of the Laboratory Animal Resource Identification and Evaluation Working Committee. Professor Wu Minghua, Executive Vice Dean of Xiangya School of Medicine, Central South University, delivered a welcome speech on behalf of Central South University. During the opening ceremony, Professor Qin Chuan, Member of the Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences and Executive Vice President of CALAS, Chang Wei, Director of the Laboratory Animal Management Office of the Hunan Provincial Department of Science and Technology, and Professor Wang Kangkai, President of the Hunan Pathophysiological Society, gave enthusiastic speeches.

Special Events
On June 5th, a science popularization activity was held at Xiangya School of Medicine, Central South University, where Professor Du Xiaoyan from Capital Medical University and Researcher Gao Ran from the Institute of Medical Laboratory Animals, Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences, gave vivid and interesting lectures on laboratory animal knowledge to students.
Expert Training
During the conference, a training session for the expert database on laboratory animal resource identification and evaluation was held, explaining the procedures for identification and evaluation, relevant documents, and key points for on-site identification. Certificates were awarded to the review experts. Over 70 experts participated in the training, which was highly popular and lively, attracting more than 20 unregistered participants to attend.
Project Review Meeting
A mid-term progress meeting for the national key research and development project "Research and Demonstration of Key Technologies for Enhancing the Service and Innovation Capacity of the National Laboratory Animal Resource Bank" was also held. Attending experts provided detailed progress reports and reviews on the project.
Textbook Compilation Meeting
On the afternoon of the 7th, the editorial board meeting for the "Animal Models and Diseases" textbook was held to promote a more systematic and standardized approach to teaching and research in the field of laboratory animals.
Nearly 200 experts, scholars, enterprise representatives, and students from 25 provinces, municipalities, and autonomous regions attended the conference. Attendees found the conference content rich and fulfilling, providing new vitality to the research and development of laboratory animal resources and uniting the collective determination of colleagues in the field. Participants pledged to work together to continuously promote innovation and progress in the field of laboratory animal resources, contributing more wisdom and strength to human health and scientific research.
